Denso
Corp. to make common rail diesels in Thailand.
The
giant Japanese supplier, which is closely linked to the Toyota group,
claims to be first to develop and mass-produce diesel common rail
systems capable of injecting fuel at 1,800 bar and therefore able
to meet forthcoming Euro IV emission regulations.
Production will be handled for the first 18 months by Denso Thailand
but in 2004 work will be shifted over Siam Denso Manufacturing (SDM),
a brand new subsidiary established on February 8 with a capital
base of Bt930 million (US$19 million). With a capital investment
of around Bt2.7 billion (US$54 million) Denso intends to lift output
of common rail system to 250,000 per year.
The
companys investment in Hungary comprises a capitalization
of 85 million euros (US$72 million) and an investment of US$54 million
to ramp production of common rail systems up to 300,000 per annum
over the same timeframe.
"European
and Asian markets are expected to expand the most for diesel vehicles,"
said Denso managing director Masami Manabe. "By manufacturing
diesel common rail systems in Thailand and Hungary, we will be able
to supply the systems in three regions, Japan, Europe and Asia."
